My Desktop

Many of my friends have told me that my cubicle at work is the most decorative in the department.  Looking around at it–yes, it is.  But it’s not my fault people give me all sorts of cool stuff to hang up, and it’s also not my fault that I keep finding hilarious things too!  So this page is dedicated to my desktop and all the random objects that live there.

I’ll have pictures of all my objects soon!

My Rubber Sheep Ducky
This little guy was given to me by a gal named Jamie O’Toole who I worked with at CCH, a tax software company where I answered phones and dealt with grouchy attorneys all day long.  I didn’t like the job, but I LOVED Jamie. (My Rubber Sheep Ducky is away on a special assignment as a Lucky Duck for my buddy Brookie.)

My Pretty Turtle
This little turtle was a gift from one of our Graduate Assistants at the Library.  Her name was Dipti, and she brought it back from India with her.

My Blinged Out Pencil Holder
Dipti also brought me back this really gorgeous pencil holder, covered in sequins and glitter.  There were also two pens that matched the holder inside.

My Mini Bowling Set
Steph Versch, my cooworker, gave me my mini bowling set.  She’s making me a mini bowling alley to go with it, but that’s still coming.  When it’s done, I think we’ll have a party.

My Husky Beanie Baby
I’m not into Beanie Babies, but my long-time friend Amy Lemke gave this Husky to me a long time ago.  Well–she sort of gave it to me.  It was Vacation Bible School at church and we were both volunteers, and during one activity the people on stage had to pull Beanie babies out of tubs and hurl them into the congregation.  Amy (my buddy Boris) threw this one to me.

My Fake-Beanie Baby Raccoon
I have a little Beanie-Baby-ish raccoon thing that the Senior Associate Dean of the Library gave me for Christmas when I was a student working in the Dean’s Office.

My Teeny-Tiny Sequoia Twig
I also have a little redwood stick that my buddy Brookie (the Heavy Metal Ballerina) gave to me.  I won’t say how she got it because I don’t want her to get arrested. =)

My Dream Poster
I made a poster at a Library Classified/Unclassified Meeting once.  It was an official meeting, but they let us all make works of art to symbolize our goals or our accomplishments in the year.  It was my first year working at the library when I made it, and I wanted it to be representative of my dream to make enough money to live on my farm.  So it’s a homemade poster of my farm.

My Crocheted Dracula (and His Crocheted Coffin)
For Christmas, Steph Versh made me a crocheted Dracula in a little coffin.  It’s AWESOME!!

Gamabunta, the Freakin’ Huge Origami Toad
When I went on vacation or to camp at some point, I came back and some of the shelvers (at least I think it was a few certain shelvers) decorated my desk with origami frogs.  So I picked out the GIANT one, named him Gamabunta (if you haven’t ever watched Naruto, it won’t make sense; don’t worry), and he lives on my desk now.

Gamakichi, the Teeny Origami Toad
Same story with Gamakichi.  He was the itty-bitty origami frog .  So he lives with Gamabunta on my desk too.

My Tarzan Wu Paper Doll (and Accessories)
Every year, the Sunflower (WSU student newspaper) puts out a survival guide for freshmen.  Well, Fall 2008, they did one with a cover that had WuShock (our mascot) swinging around in a jungle dressed up like Tarzan.  It’s so disturbing that we all screamed in terror.  And Steph promptly cut it out and put it up on my cubicle wall with some paper doll accessories (like a pair of pants to put on him, Twilight, and a cup of coffee).

My “Snap, Crackle, Pop” Sign
Steph drew me a little sign after the WuCops came over one day to check on a student who had fallen down our stairs.  He was a foreign student so he didn’t speak English well, and the WuCop was asking him about his injured wrist, “Does it go snap, crackle, pop when you move it?”  He had to repeat the question three times before he realized that the idiom was lost on the poor student.

My Dilbert Comic Strip
Jane cut out a Dilbert comic strip and put it on my desk because Dogbert busts out into a “BU-WA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!” . . . and that’s what I always do.

My Spanish Calendar Page
I found a random calendar page in a book once.  It’s all in Spanish, but this is what it says: “Le pesche sono dolcissime.”  That means “The peaces are very sweet.”  And since it has peaches on it, I had to keep it.  Because I’m always peachy!

My Las Vegas Stuff
Jo, one of our part-timers, went to Las Vegas and came back with a bunch of stuff.  So I have a post card and a little pack of matches and a $5 poker chip!  So exciting!

My Coloring Page
Another random item I found in a book.  It’s a knight fighting a dragon, and it’s colored very well.  I waited for someone to claim it, and no one did.  So I put it up on my wall.

My Purple Shiny Ribbon Bow
I think it was my birthday, someone wrapped ribbons around my Beanie Baby Husky and the Fake Beanie Baby Raccoon.  The purple ribbon bow was pretty, so I kept it.

My Origami Flower Thing
I found a random origami flower thing on the floor one day, so I just put it up on my wall.

My Pirate Streamer
For my birthday (26), the Circ folks decked my cubicle out with pirate stuff.  I kept the black and red streamer, and it’s hanging off my cubicle still. (Actually . . . it’s disappeared now . . . I think someone stole it.  Sadness.)

My WuShock Coin
My friend Brian (the confused military man) went to Turkey some time back and bought me a WSU coin.  So I have a Wichita State University coin from Turkey.

“No Ants” Sign
There was a time when the library was infested with ants, and none of the poisons were working to get rid of them.  So John at Circulation made teeny tiny little NO ANTS signs and said we should put them up in strategic locations around the library so they would know they weren’t allowed.  No one else went for it, but I put one up on my cubicle.  I’ll have you know, I’ve not seen one ant since.

Team Edward Werewolf
Coworker Steph gave me a little paper stand up of a cute little werewolf growling and holding a picket sign that reads “Team Edward” on one side and “No smelly dogs!” on the other side.  I love him!

Hello Kitty 80’s Rocker
For Steph’s birthday, I gave her a bunch of Hello Kitty stickers, which she shared.  So I wore my little 80’s Rocker on my badge for a day and got tired of my hair getting stuck in it.  So I put her on the side of my inbox tray instead.

My Apple from the Tree of Knowledge
A strange random student wearing a white dress and lacy gloves and pushing a wheelbarrow through the library stopped and gave me an apple from the Tree of Knowledge one day. . . . I don’t know what that means. But the Apple is on my desk. It’s rotting slightly, so I’ll have to throw it away soon. But I figured there needed to be record that such a thing existed. (Steph put a face on him too; he looks quite devious.)
